Thoughts on the Republican debate, Part 1

Republicans are the Adjectival Party. Democrats say "We shouldn't have listened to the civilians; we should have listened to the generals." Repubicans say "We shouldn't have listened to the civilians wearing fancy suits and silk ties; we should have listened to the generals with mud and blood on their boots."

All the Republican candidates are Vietnam-aged -- that is, they all were of the right age to have served in the Vietnam war. So how come, when speaking of Iraq, they use terms like "battlefield"? Did they learn NOTHING from Vietnam?
